Minister Ministry of Industry H.E. Melaku Alebel

SME Finance Project Successfully Concludes, Set to Expand as a National Model
Addis Ababa, August 29, 2025 (EED) – The Ethiopian Enterprise Development (EED) announced the successful completion of the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Finance Project, which has been implemented over the past eight years.

Speaking at the official closing program, Minister of Ministry of Industry H.E. Melaku Alebel highlighted the project’s achievements in providing entrepreneurs with access to machinery lease finance, working capital loans, and business development service training. He noted that loan repayment performance under the project surpassed the regular credit system, making it an effective and sustainable model.

The Minister emphasized that the project played a key role in promoting equitable wealth distribution among regions and stimulating industrial growth in less developed areas. He further affirmed that, although the project has officially ended, its model will be scaled up nationwide to support Ethiopia’s next phase of industrialization.

“The SME Finance Project has demonstrated that with the right technology and skills training, Ethiopians are capable of producing competitively,” Minister Melaku stated.
