
Ethiopia’s SME Manufacturing Sector Achievements Inspire African Delegates
Addis Ababa, September 2, 2025 – The Ethiopian Enterprise Development (EED) shared the progress and transformative changes achieved in the country’s Small and Medium Manufacturing Enterprises (SMEs) sector with a high-level delegation from various African countries.

Speaking at the briefing, Mr. Abdulfeta Yesuf, Deputy Director General of EED, highlighted that the Ethiopian government’s strong focus on the manufacturing sector has resulted in significant progress. He noted that the Agency has been working closely with implementing institutions and stakeholders to ensure SMEs become productive, competitive, and sustainable.

Mr. Abdulfeta also underscored the role of the Rural Industrialization Initiative, through which new manufacturing enterprises have been established in rural Weredas. He confirmed that this initiative will be further strengthened in the upcoming 2018 fiscal year.

In addition, he explained that extensive efforts are underway to help Ethiopian SMEs participate in and benefit from the global market. Key initiatives include improving product quality, attaining international certification, and supporting enterprises to meet global standards.

On his part, Mr. Robel Ahmed, Public Relations and Communication Executive of EED, briefed the delegates from Lesotho and Botswana on the EED’s major activities and the success stories registered in the sector.

The delegates expressed their gratitude for the warm reception and detailed presentation, noting that the changes achieved in Ethiopia’s SME manufacturing sector are encouraging and could serve as an experience and learning model for other African countries.
