A Country That Does Not Produce Faces a Question of Survival,” Says Deputy Director General

Adama, Ethiopia – March 14, 2026

A capacity-building training organized by Ethiopian Enterprise Development (EED) for leaders and experts on strategies, directives, and operational systems designed to support the manufacturing sector has successfully concluded in Adama City.

Speaking at the closing session, the Deputy Director General of Ethiopian Enterprise Development, Mr. Paulos Berga, emphasized that the manufacturing sector is critical to the country’s economic development and national survival. He noted that building competitive small and medium manufacturing enterprises is essential for strengthening the sector.

“A country that does not produce faces a question of survival,” Mr. Paulos said, urging leaders and professionals in the sector to fully understand and effectively implement the strategies, directives, and operational systems developed to support the manufacturing sector and translate them into tangible results.

He further highlighted the importance of enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium manufacturing enterprises, addressing their operational challenges, and enabling them to participate in export and import-substitution production in order to improve productivity and overall performance.

Participants of the training indicated that the program provided them with valuable knowledge and practical insights that will help them better lead and support the manufacturing sector.

The four-day training brought together 121 leaders and experts from across all regions who are engaged in supporting the small and medium manufacturing sector. During the program, participants received training on eight key strategies, directives, and operational systems designed to strengthen the sector.
