Domestic Investors Urged to Engage in Recycling Sector

Domestic investors have been called upon to invest in the recycling sector, as part of efforts to promote sustainable development and job creation in Ethiopia.
The call was made during a consultation forum organized by PETCO Ethiopia in commemoration of Global Recycling Day, held in Addis Ababa.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Director General of Ethiopian Enterprise Development, Mr. Abdulfeta Yusuf, highlighted that the recycling sector holds significant potential to generate employment opportunities for a large number of citizens while reducing reliance on imported raw materials.
He noted that waste, when properly managed and utilized, can be transformed into valuable resources, stressing the importance of providing research-based support to enable small and medium manufacturing enterprises to effectively engage in the sector.
Mr. Abdulfeta also underscored the need to cultivate a mindset that recognizes waste as a resource and urged domestic investors to adopt modern technologies and actively participate in the recycling industry.
PETCO Ethiopia Chief Executive Director, Ms. Mihret Teklemariam, stated that the forum was organized to raise awareness and motivate domestic investors to consider recycling as a sustainable and viable business opportunity.
She further explained that through its Capacity Building Program, PETCO Ethiopia is providing the necessary support to small and medium manufacturing enterprises to facilitate their engagement in the sector, with a particular focus on creating sustainable employment opportunities for youth and women.
The forum also featured a presentation by Dr. Ayele Hegeno, Senior Director of PETCO Ethiopia’s Capacity Building Program, who outlined the opportunities, enabling conditions, and challenges within the recycling sector, followed by a discussion session.
