Balanced Regional Development Requires Implementing Rural Industrialization
EED Deputy Director General, Mr. Abdulfeta Yesuf
Adama, September 28, 2018 E.C. The Deputy Director General of the Ethiopian Enterprise Development (EED), Mr.Abdulfeta Yesuf, emphasized that achieving balanced development across regions requires the effective implementation of the Rural Industrialization Initiative.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with senior regional and city administration leaders and sector professionals, Mr. Abdulfeta stated that the initiative aims to ensure that raw materials, which have long been leaving rural areas at low prices, gain added value within the districts where they are produced — thereby allowing fair and competitive market participation.
He noted that although several challenges have been faced in the course of implementation, efforts must continue to channel the nation’s resources into the productive industrial sector.

Addressing the issue of access to finance. Abdulfeta urged regional and zonal leaders to facilitate credit for manufacturing enterprises in their respective areas by providing guarantees. He further remarked that the financial constraint is not a global issue, but one that can be solved through creative and locally tailored solutions.
Highlighting the vital role of the manufacturing industry in ensuring sustainable economic growth, Mr. Abdulfeta called for the use of the structured operational systems and frameworks developed under the “Ethiopia Produces” initiative to overcome challenges and accelerate progress.

He concluded by underscoring that, during the 2018 Ethiopian fiscal year, each rural district across the nation should establish at least one manufacturing enterprise as part of the national effort to promote industrialization and balanced regional development.
