
Over 201,000 Jobs Created Through Manufacturing Enterprises in 2017 E.C.

The Ethiopian Enterprise Development (EED) has announced the successful creation of 201,988 job opportunities during the 2017 Ethiopian fiscal year through support provided to small and medium manufacturing enterprises.
Deputy Director General of EED, Mr. Abdulfeta Yesuf, stated that this achievement is the result of collaborative efforts with key stakeholders and implementing partners aimed at enhancing the production capacity of enterprises and boosting their global competitiveness.
“In addition to providing access to production space, finance, and input linkages, EED has also offered targeted technical training to build enterprise capacity,” Mr. Abdulfeta noted. “Special emphasis was placed on encouraging the creation of new enterprises and enhancing their focus on cost-effective, import-substituting, and export market products.”
EED facilitated the establishment of 4,285 new small and medium enterprises and supported the strengthening of 15,687 existing manufacturing enterprises.
“During the fiscal year, the establishment of new enterprises and the strengthening of existing ones enabled the creation of job opportunities for 201,988 citizens.”
In a related initiative, under the recently launched Rural Industrialization Program, 381 new enterprises were established in rural woredas, creating 2,761 jobs for local residents.
The Ethiopian Enterprise Development remains committed to promoting sustainable job creation, enterprise competitiveness, import-substitution, export market and inclusive industrial growth throughout the country.
