“The Role of Implementing and Partner Institutions Is Key to the Success of the Mabqat Program!”

The experience-sharing and discussion forum held in Dire Dawa focusing on the Mabqat Program, which aims to create employment opportunities for youth—particularly women—through the development of small and medium manufacturing enterprises, has been successfully concluded.

The Program is jointly implemented by PETCO Ethiopia, the MasterCard Foundation, Ethiopian Enterprise Development (EED), and CAWEE. The program targets6,355 small and medium manufacturing enterprises (SMMEs)and aims to create 241,696 job opportunities for youth.
During the forum, participants discussed the 2024/25 fiscal year performance and the 2025/26 fiscal year plan of the Mabqat Program.
As part of the event, participants also visited successful small and medium manufacturing industries in Dire Dawa, as well as Dire Dawa Polytechnic College and Dire Dawa University, which shared their experiences and contributions to the industrial sector.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Alebachew Nigussie, Director General of Ethiopian Enterprise Development, emphasized that the active participation of implementing and partner institutions plays a decisive role in ensuring the program’s success. He called on all stakeholders to work in close collaboration and coordination.

He also encouraged participants to adapt and replicate the valuable experiences observed in Dire Dawa according to their local contexts.

Dr. Alebachew further commended Dire Dawa UniversityandDire Dawa Polytechnic College for their strong efforts in supporting and leading industrial development, urging other universities and polytechnic institutions to strengthen their engagement with the manufacturing sector.

The forum brought together senior and mid-level leaders from Ethiopian Enterprise Development, officials from PETCO Ethiopia and CAWEE, as well as program coordinators and representatives from various regions, zones, and cities where the Graduation Program is being implemented, alongside other key stakeholders.
